As a collaboration between WP2 and WP5, the first PERSEUS International Workshop, titled “2D Materials for Theranostics,” was successfully held and promoted as a dedicated symposium during the 2024 MRS Fall Meeting in Boston, from 1 to 6 December 2024. The event brought together international experts to discuss the latest developments and interdisciplinary approaches in the use of 2D materials for biomedical and theranostic applications.
The workshop covered a wide range of topics, including:
- Fabrication and properties of 2D materials
- Functionalisation and smart composites for theranostics
- Single-cell interactions, nanotoxicology, and biocompatibility
- Screening and detection of endotoxins
- Purification, degradation, and excretion of 2D materials in biological systems
- Multi-functional nanoplatforms and targeted drug/gene delivery
- In-vitro and in-vivo imaging methods
- 2D materials for photothermal and photodynamic therapy
- Anti-viral and anti-bacterial applications
- Activation of radiosensitising agents using X-rays, gamma rays, electrons, or protons
- Immunomodulation and nano-immunity
To maximise visibility, a structured dissemination campaign preceded the event, including a coordinated series of Website updates, social media posts, and partner announcements. A custom workshop flag and a dedicated landing-page banner were also featured on www.perseusproject.eu, highlighting the event within the project’s overall communication framework.
The symposium attracted a broad audience from academia and industry, fostering new collaborations and significantly enhancing the visibility of PERSEUS within the international research community. The discussions held during the event provided valuable insights that will inform upcoming dissemination and exploitation activities.
