In line with the PERSEUS Dissemination and Communication Plan (release 2), QED organised an Interdisciplinary Training Webinar on Visual Communication in San Sebastián. The webinar, titled Taking Better Photos for Social Media, aimed to strengthen the capacity of PERSEUS researchers to create high-quality visual materials — such as photos — for use in the project’s social media and online communication channels.
The objectives of the workshop were to:
- Improve researchers’ skills in visual storytelling and digital communication for non-specialist audiences.
- Provide hands-on training in photography techniques adapted to laboratory and research settings.
- Ensure alignment with the PERSEUS branding guidelines and overall visual identity.
- Encourage scientists’ direct involvement in communicating research progress and fostering public engagement.
The webinar was mainly theoretical. Participants were introduced to principles of visual reading, intuition, composition, lighting, and framing, along with best practices for producing concise and engaging social media content. Sessions included use cases based on the history of classical and reportage photography, supported by practical guidance on maintaining visual consistency.
The webinar successfully enhanced participants’ ability to produce professional and coherent visual materials for dissemination purposes. It contributed to:
- Greater researcher participation in the creation of outreach materials, including future Meet Your Scientist videos and event coverage.
- Increased awareness among scientists of the importance of visual coherence and narrative clarity in communicating EU-funded research.
Feedback collected at the end of the event confirmed the workshop’s practical relevance and its value in promoting a consistent and engaging public image of PERSEUS.
