Continuing its commitment to equality and inclusion, PERSEUS celebrates the women advancing nanomedicine and inspiring the next generation of scientists.
PERSEUS has always placed people at the centre of its scientific mission. During the second reporting period, the project renewed its “Women in Science” campaign, a flagship initiative that highlights the contribution of female researchers working across disciplines and partner institutions.
From materials chemistry and physics to molecular biology and toxicology, the campaign presents the faces and stories of women who are shaping the future of nanomedicine. Through short profiles, interviews, and photo features, PERSEUS showcases their daily work in the laboratory, their personal motivations, and the creative spirit driving their discoveries.
Each story demonstrates that scientific progress depends not only on technology, but also on diversity of perspectives and experiences. The campaign illustrates how collaboration across gender, age, and discipline generates innovation, and how inclusion strengthens the scientific community as a whole.
Published through the PERSEUS website and its social-media channels, the “Women in Science” series has reached a wide audience, including students, educators, and science enthusiasts. It has become a central element of the project’s engagement strategy, encouraging young women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
By showing what it means to work in research today — the curiosity, the challenges, the teamwork, and the sense of discovery — PERSEUS offers an authentic glimpse into the human side of European science.
The campaign also supports the broader objectives of the Horizon Europe Gender Equality Strategy, which promotes gender balance in research teams and integration of the gender dimension into scientific content. PERSEUS actively contributes to these goals by ensuring visibility for women at all stages of their careers and by fostering a respectful, inclusive environment within the consortium.
The new “Women in Science” visuals and interviews will continue to appear throughout 2025, featuring researchers from CNR, Technion, Karolinska Institutet, and other partner institutions. Together, their stories remind us that great science thrives on diversity — and that role models matter.
